Turnoff

Terms of Service

Last updated: 3 July 2026

These Terms of Service (“Terms”) govern your use of the Turnoff website at turnoff.now, the Turnoff browser extension, and the services offered through them (together, the “Service”). The Service is provided by Follow Your Instincts UG (haftungsbeschränkt), Birkenstr. 14, 67067 Ludwigshafen am Rhein, Germany (“Turnoff”, “we”, “us”) — see the Imprint. By creating an account or using the Service you agree to these Terms.

1. What Turnoff is — and what it is not

Turnoff is a self-help focus tool. With an active subscription, the browser extension redirects your visits to adult websites on our curated blocklist — plus any sites you add yourself — into a short, calm interrupt sequence that ends in a conscious choice.

  • Turnoff is not a medical or therapeutic product. It is not a medical device, does not provide medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment, and makes no health claims. If compulsive use feels unmanageable, professional support is a good next step.
  • Blocking is self-help by design. You stay in control: the extension can be paused, bypassed (“Open anyway”), or uninstalled at any time. Turnoff is a tool that supports your own decision, not a lock.
  • Blocking is best-effort. It is based on a curated list of domains and the sites you add. We do not guarantee that every adult site is covered, that blocking works in every browser or browsing mode (for example, private windows require you to allow the extension there), or that the Service is uninterrupted or error-free.

2. Eligibility

You must be at least 18 years old to use the Service. By using it you confirm that you are 18 or older and legally capable of entering into this agreement.

3. Your account

Core features require an account (email/password or Google sign-in). Keep your credentials confidential and give us accurate information. You are responsible for activity under your account. One account per person; accounts are not transferable. You can delete your account at any time from the dashboard.

4. Subscriptions, free trial, and billing

  • Plans. The Service’s core functionality requires a paid subscription (billed weekly or yearly). The plans and prices shown at checkout apply.
  • Taxes. Displayed prices are exclusive of VAT / sales tax; the applicable tax for your location is added at checkout.
  • Free trial. New subscriptions start with a 3-day free trial. A payment method is collected when the trial starts, and the subscription converts into a paid subscription automatically unless you cancel before the trial ends. You will not be charged if you cancel during the trial.
  • Renewal. Subscriptions renew automatically for the chosen billing period until cancelled.
  • Cancellation. You can cancel at any time via “Manage subscription” on your dashboard. Your access continues until the end of the period already paid for; there are no partial refunds for the remainder of a running period, except where required by law or stated otherwise in these Terms. Deleting your account also cancels your subscription immediately; the current period is not refunded.
  • Payment processing — merchant of record. Payments are processed by Stripe as merchant of record (purchases appear as “Sold through Link”). The payment transaction — including payment collection, taxes, invoicing, refund processing, and chargebacks — is handled by Stripe under its buyer terms; the subscription and the Service itself are provided by us under these Terms. We never receive your full card details.
  • Price changes. We may change prices with reasonable advance notice (at least 30 days, by email or in-product). Changes take effect at the next renewal after the notice period; if you do not agree, cancel before the change takes effect.
  • Failed payments. If a renewal payment fails, payment is retried; if it ultimately fails, the subscription ends and blocking is deactivated.

5. Right of withdrawal for consumers (EU/EEA and UK)

If you are a consumer in the EU/EEA or the UK, you have the right to withdraw from this contract within 14 days without giving any reason.

The withdrawal period is 14 days from the day the contract is concluded (the day you start your subscription, including a free trial). To exercise the right, inform us — support@turnoff.now or the postal address in the Imprint — by an unequivocal statement (e.g. an email). You may use the model form below, but it is not obligatory. To meet the deadline, it is sufficient to send your communication before the withdrawal period expires.

Effects of withdrawal. If you withdraw, we shall reimburse all payments received from you without undue delay and no later than 14 days from the day we are informed of your decision, using the same means of payment you used, at no fee to you. If you requested that the Service begin during the withdrawal period (which happens when you start your subscription or trial), you owe us an amount proportionate to the services provided up to the time you informed us of the withdrawal, compared with the full coverage of the contract.

Model withdrawal form (complete and return only if you wish to withdraw):

— To Follow Your Instincts UG (haftungsbeschränkt), Birkenstr. 14, 67067 Ludwigshafen am Rhein, Germany, support@turnoff.now:
— I hereby give notice that I withdraw from my contract for the provision of the following service: Turnoff subscription

6. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

  • use the Service for any unlawful purpose;
  • interfere with or disrupt the Service, circumvent technical or usage limits, or access it by automated means outside the intended interfaces;
  • resell, sublicense, or provide the Service to third parties;
  • reverse engineer, decompile, or disassemble any part of the Service, except to the extent such restriction is prohibited by applicable law;
  • misuse our endpoints, tokens, or other users’ data, or attempt to gain unauthorised access.

Install the extension only from official sources (the Chrome Web Store, Microsoft Edge Add-ons, or builds we distribute). The respective store’s terms also apply to the installation.

7. Intellectual property

The Service, including its software, design, and content, is owned by us or our licensors. We grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to use the Service for your own personal, non-commercial purposes while you have an account in good standing. All rights not expressly granted remain reserved.

8. Third-party services

The Service relies on third-party services, including Stripe (payment processing, merchant of record) and Google Firebase (authentication, data storage, hosting). Their own terms and privacy policies apply to their services. See our Privacy Policy for details on data processing.

9. Disclaimers

The Service supports a change you choose to make; we do not promise any particular outcome. Statutory warranty rights that consumers have under applicable law remain unaffected by anything in these Terms.

10. Liability

We are liable without limitation for damages caused by intent or gross negligence, in case of injury to life, body, or health, under the German Product Liability Act (Produkthaftungsgesetz), and to the extent we have given an express guarantee.

For slight negligence, we are liable only for breaches of essential contractual obligations (obligations whose fulfilment makes the proper performance of the contract possible in the first place and on whose fulfilment you may regularly rely), and in that case limited to the damage that was foreseeable and typical at the time of conclusion of the contract. Any further liability is excluded.

These limitations do not apply where liability cannot be limited or excluded under the mandatory law applicable to you as a consumer.

11. Changes to the Service and to these Terms

We continuously develop the Service and may change or discontinue features, provided the core of what you paid for remains available during your paid period. We may amend these Terms for good reason (for example legal changes, new features, or security). We will announce material changes at least 30 days in advance by email or in-product notice. If you do not agree, you may cancel before the changes take effect; continued use after the effective date constitutes acceptance where permitted by applicable law.

12. Termination

You may stop using the Service, cancel your subscription, and delete your account at any time. We may suspend or terminate your access for good cause — in particular a material breach of these Terms — where appropriate after prior notice. Statutory termination rights remain unaffected.

13. Governing law and disputes

These Terms are governed by the laws of the Federal Republic of Germany, excluding the UN Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods (CISG). If you are a consumer, this choice of law does not deprive you of the protection of mandatory provisions of the law of the country in which you habitually reside.

We are neither willing nor obliged to participate in dispute resolution proceedings before a consumer arbitration board (§ 36 VSBG).

14. Final provisions

If any provision of these Terms is or becomes invalid, the remaining provisions remain unaffected. You may not assign your rights under these Terms without our consent; we may assign these Terms within our corporate group or in the course of a merger or acquisition, provided your rights are not impaired.
