Common questions

Billing, invoices, and cancellation

Subscribed on the website? Open your dashboard → “Manage subscription”. Stripe’s billing portal lets you cancel, renew, and update your payment method; cancelling keeps your access until the end of the paid period. Subscribed in the iPhone app? That purchase is billed by Apple — manage or cancel it under Settings → your name → Subscriptions on your iPhone, and request refunds through Apple. Subscribed in the Android app? That purchase is billed by Google Play: manage or cancel it in the Play Store under your profile → Payments and subscriptions → Subscriptions, and request refunds through Google. For anything those don’t cover, email us.

Blocking doesn’t work in private/Incognito windows

Chrome and Edge disable extensions in Incognito/InPrivate by default. Open chrome://extensions (Edge: edge://extensions) → Turnoff → Details → enable “Allow in Incognito” / “Allow in InPrivate”. Safari (iPhone & Mac): turn on “Allow in Private Browsing” under Settings → Apps → Safari → Extensions → Turnoff. On Android the Turnoff app’s filter covers incognito tabs without an extra switch.

Safari (iPhone & Mac): blocking silently does nothing

Safari skips blocking on sites you haven’t granted access to — without any prompt. On that same Settings screen, set “All Websites” to Allow. The Turnoff app’s setup guide walks through every switch, and the Turnoff popup in Safari’s toolbar shows what’s still missing.

Android: blocking stops or pages don’t load

Open the Turnoff app → Devices → Protection on this phone. That page shows what is missing and switches protection back on. Leave Private DNS on “Automatic” (Settings → Network & internet → Private DNS): in strict mode pages stop loading while protection is on. Only one VPN can run at a time, so another VPN app turns Turnoff’s filter off. Some phones stop apps in the background to save battery; if protection keeps switching itself off, let Turnoff run in the background in your phone’s battery settings.

Adding your own blocked sites

On the dashboard, add any domain under “Your blocked sites” — it starts blocking in all your connected browsers right away.

Deleting your account

Dashboard → “Delete account” (or the account menu in the app). This permanently removes your account, stats, and custom blocklist. A website subscription is cancelled with it; a subscription billed by Apple or Google Play is not. Cancel that in your Apple subscription settings or in Google Play.
